Lindsey Walker '05 Talks Social Media with Seniors

On Friday, Oct. 11, Harvey alum Lindsey Walker '05 hosted a special morning meeting with just seniors to talk about the positive and negative aspects of social media. Students were asked to think about their social media use and decide whether they used it for fun or as a tool. They were tasked to write on post-it notes how they used each social media platform - Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and others - and place the note under either the fun column or tool column.

At this point in their lives, most students use social media for fun. Lindsey made students aware of the fact that whatever they post is permanent and reflects on them with college admissions officers and future employers. Then the conversation shifted to how to make social media a positive tool that will help students succeed in their future careers, make business connections, and achieve their goals. Students discussed in smaller groups how to use their social media accounts as effective tools and then spoke about it as a larger group.

The insightful discussion gave students a new take on their social media habits and how they can use each platform more responsibly and effectively from this day forward. Thank you, Lindsey, for helping our current seniors examine such an important and relevant aspect of their lives.
