Harvey Senior Earns Highest Award in Girl Scouts
Harvey senior Victoria Gerry, a Somers Ambassador Girl Scout, earned her Gold Award for her project, Minds Matter: Raising Awareness for Mental Health. The Gold Award is the highest award that can be achieved in Girl Scouts. In addition to educating others about mental health, her project also addressed the stigma people face when dealing with a mental illness.
As the final part of her project, Victoria shared her own personal journey dealing with mental health at a public seminar held at the Somers Library in October 2019. She created an educational power-point presentation and provided guest speakers who helped answer questions during the seminar. Participants were introduced to various coping skills for anxiety such as coloring, tapping, meditation, journaling, and yoga.
Congratulations, Victoria, on this incredible achievement.
