The Annual Fund
The Alumni and Development Office works closely with the Head of School, Harvey trustees and a group of dedicated volunteers to raise the charitable gifts needed to balance the operating budget. These gifts help to supplement tuition income which does not cover the total cost of educating all of our students. Each year, the entire school community is asked to participate in the Annual Fund, which supports our dedicated faculty and staff by keeping their compensation packages as competitive as possible. Gifts also provide support for various activities and extracurricular programs and help qualified families who need tuition assistance. Last year, more than 90 percent of our parents made a gift to the Annual Fund.
Last year, more than $2.6 million was raised in overall charitable giving. This included gifts to the Annual Fund, Harvey’s endowment (including the Barry Fenstermacher Centennial Fund for Financial Aid) and special campus projects.
Recent Athletic Center Campaign
We have now closed our most recent capital campaign which accomplished three goals. We built a magnificent athletic and fitness center used all-year-round by the entire Harvey family. Secondly, we raised more than $1 million for Harvey’s endowment. The final campaign objective was to build six tennis courts which were completed in the summer of 2015. Our boys varsity tennis team has been the HVAL champions for the last five years, and Harvey’s girls tennis team has made huge strides in its four seasons, making it to the semifinals of the HVAL playoffs for the first time in 2016. Having courts on campus has multiple benefits for our students, our summer campers and for the entire Harvey community.
Currently, the majority of Harvey's $4 million endowment is dedicated to supporting our faculty and staff. These funds help keep our faculty and staff salaries, benefits and professional development opportunities competitive with peer schools. Four designated funds for faculty are: The John P. McMahon Fund for New Teachers, The Rose M. Baldwin and James M. Robbins Endowment Fund, The Barry W. Fenstermacher Faculty and Staff Development Fund and The Salice Endowment Fund. We are nearing our three-year goal of raising $1.5 million for Harvey’s endowment in honor of the Centennial year. To date, we have received $1.1 million and are working to double the number of alumni contributors in that same time period.
The Class of 2016 generously added $120,000 to the Barry Fenstermacher Centennial Fund for financial aid. This fund will ensure that future generations of students will be able to afford a Harvey education, and it will help maintain the student diversity that is so important to our school.
Finally, Harvey’s Alumni Association grows stronger each year under the leadership of President Dan Chapman '70.
Association members continue to provide networking opportunities for the alumni body and provide meaningful ways for them to “give back” to their alma mater. Alumni gifts have enhanced all aspects of student and campus life and continue to make a meaningful difference to our community.
