The RoboCavs’ six-tournament win streak ended Saturday when Jericho High School bested Harvey to take the VEX IQ Challenge robotics tournament title at East Rockaway High School on Long Island.
The RoboCavs had a strong showing all morning in the qualifiers with three of their five teams in the top 10 at the 44-team event. In the afternoon elimination matches, four Harvey teams advanced to the quarter finals. When the dust settled, the final matchup of the day would feature three teams from Jericho High School, against two Harvey teams and a team from Newfield High School in a best-of-three contest. The Robohawks of Jericho, looking to avenge losing the title to the RoboCavs two weeks ago at Vaughn College, prevailed 2-0 to take the East Rockaway tournament champion title.
Despite losing the title, Harvey’s two Upper School teams qualified for the state/regional championship. Meanwhile, the Harvey Middle School team performed well, finishing in second place and earning a bid to compete in the state/regional championship as well.
