Two Harvey Middle School students are recipients of Writopia Lab’s 2017 Hudson-to-Housatonic Scholastic Writing Awards.
Eighth-grader Joseph DiGrandi won a Silver Key Award for his critical essay titled, “Learning or Regurgitation?” His classmate, Gabrielle Levinger-Louie, earned an honorable mention for her essay, “Homosexuality is Not an Illness.” Their English teacher, Christina Alexander, was happy to get the news of her students’ awards. “It’s always nice to receive news regarding the achievements of students, especially when they are recognized for not only their hard work, but also their talent. I couldn't be happier for both Joe and Gabi, two dedicated students and gifted writers."
Also earning recognition was Upper School student Isabella Iannone. The junior earned an honorable mention for her critical essay, “Handsome in Pink.”
A panel of professional novelists, editors, teachers, poets, librarians, journalists, and other literary professionals selected these works from nearly 2,000 works submitted this year. The recipients and their teachers are invited to an awards ceremony Sunday, March 5 at Manhattanville College in Purchase.
