State of School Showcases Students
Posted 11/17/2017 11:26AM

The 2017 State of the School Address brought out many parents, faculty, staff, and board members on November 8 for an enjoyable evening of student demonstrations, community mingling, and delicious cuisine. It provided the perfect setting to see some of the wonderful class projects and endeavors our students are involved in this year, along with exciting campus initiatives for Harvey in the year ahead.

Head of School Bill Knauer and Chair of the Board Eileen Walker warmly welcomed all in attendance, both speaking to the School's vibrancy, mission, and continued growth. Director of Finance and Operations Jim Skrip gave a comprehensive presentation on the very positive state of the school.

Students, along with their robotics teachers John Wahlers and Sam Schursky, introduced their innovative robotics inventions and described their building process, the teamwork involved, and what goes into preparing and competing at robotics competitions throughout the year. Seniors Owen Li, Sam Chumsky, and Justin Tebbutt, and junior Coraline Chu, amazed the audience with live demonstrations of their robots for competition.

Mr. Knauer became the star of a behind the scenes peek at Harvey Live, our student run news television program under the guidance of teacher Chris Kelly. Junior Alex Breitenbach was introduced by Mr. Knauer, who explained how the show is written, edited and produced each week for a live weekly Friday broadcast. Senior Justin Tebbott single-handedly operated the technical equipment behind the scenes which included airing video of all members of the video production crew explaining their segment or job on the show.

Architect and middle school parent Rob Siegel gave a detailed presentation of future possibilities and renovations for Weil House and the small red barn at the entrance to campus. It was exciting to envision how these structures might be repurposed to house administrative offices and meeting spaces in order to create more classroom space for the Upper School in Sylvan Hall.

The evening concluded with an informative and lively Q&A with Mr. Knauer. Thank you to all who attended! For those who were unable to make it, we hope you take some time to watch the livestream link on our website.  WATCH NOW
