The Harvey Community came together to provide much needed relief to students affected by Hurricane Harvey. Partnering with Harvey alum Nikki Pugliese ’12, a sixth grade social studies teacher at YES Prep School in Houston, TX, we raised $805 and collected school supplies to aid the students at Nikki’s school. The money raised will go a long way to help those families struggling through the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Nikki conveyed that they are facing very specific needs such as paying for transportation to school for students who have been evacuated from their homes, providing groceries for families who have run out of food, and assisting students in need of basic items such as clothing. “You have no idea how much $800 truly means to our school,” said Nikki. “It might as well be a million dollars!”
Our school raised the money through a Harvey Spirit Day where students wore their Harvey Spiritwear in exchange for a donation to the relief fund. This capped off a week-long school supply donation drive which culminated in several large boxes of all types of school supplies being packed and shipped off to Houston students at YES Prep. Donations have also been made to the YES Prep Fund through an Amazon Wishlist to provide students with clothes and school supplies during this difficult recovery period. You can still contribute by visiting Yes Prep Amazon Wishlist.
“I can hardly find the words to express how grateful I am,” said Nikki in thanking the Harvey community. “I am so overwhelmed by this generosity.”
The Harvey Hurricane Relief effort was organized by the Harvey Community Service Club with advisors Susan Harris and Jillian McCoy. Many thanks to those who donated, and to Katonah Shipping & Business Center owner Glenn Ascher for generously providing shipping of the donations at a discounted rate.
