Race to Nowhere
"Race to Nowhere"

Tuesday, January 18, 6:45pm, in the Study Hall

We will be showing the film "The Race to Nowhere" next week. This film is rated "PG-13" and deals with controversial subjects. Upper School students are most encouraged to attend. In fact, their feedback and reaction will be important in any discussions and follow up we may do.

As many of you know, this movie is being shown at public and independent schools across the country. We feel it important to bring it to Harvey as a way to encourage dialogue and discussion amongst our entire community. Though the movie indicts aspects of our general education system in the United States, we feel strongly that, at Harvey, with our unique mission, not all the issues highlighted in the film are particularly prevalent in our educational approach. The movie does focus on the roots of, and the dangers, of teenage stress, and provides us an opportunity to talk together about what aspects of the stories told resonates within our community. Following the screening, we will have a 45 minute period of discussion led by a panel including Dr. Walant, the Headmaster, Upper and Middle School Heads and our Dean of Students.

Come at 6:45 for coffee and tea before we start the film promptly at 7:00 PM. As you can well understand, only those who are in attendance on Wednesday night will be eligible to participate in future discussions based on the film.

This funny, passionate and thought-provoking presenter will explore the underlying reasons for the increase in substance abuse among teens, discuss new drug trends and high risk behaviors, and talk about prevention strategies.
