The Harvey School Campus

The Harvey School, nestled among rolling meadows, wooded groves and peaceful rural surroundings, provides a beautiful and inviting setting for learning and living. Situated on 100 acres of woods, lawns and fields, the campus offers six athletic fields, outdoor basketball court, an archery field and the Evarts Ice Rink.

Located among the gentle hills of Katonah in northern Westchester County, New York, The Harvey School shares its “neighborhood” with the well-known Katonah Museum of Art, historic John Jay Homestead and the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. It is easily accessible to and from Manhattan, Connecticut and other areas offering further opportunities for enrichment.

Transportation

Transportation for day students is generally often provided by local school systems. Check with the transportation coordinator of your local school district to ascertain if your child is eligible.

Students who live beyond a fifteen mile radius and are not eligible for provided transportation have several options. Some commute by car when they have parental permission to drive on campus. Some families choose to car pool. Others join together to charter a private car service and share the commuting costs.

Students may also commute by train. The Metro North Harlem Line stops at Katonah from Grand Central Station. The school transports students to and from Katonah Train Station. Metro North offers a reduced student fare.

Residential Life

One of the distinctive features offered by The Harvey School is its 5-Day Residential Program. During the week, this program provides a positive structured environment focused on education .

Residential students can enjoy and profit from the many aspects of school life, including proctored evening study halls and the availability of faculty who live on campus and serve as counselors, friends and role models. However, residential students return home to their families and friends every weekend. This is of special value to students who need additional structure and a stable environment, and for parents involved with careers or single heads of household. Both dormitories are supervised by faculty members. Two faculty members live on each floor of the dorm with a maximum of 16 students per dorm.

Students leave campus each Friday at 5:00 p.m. and return by 6:30 p.m. on Sunday for a quiet time to catch-up on homework, to study for tests or just for “settling in.” Students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible to be residential students. There are separate dorms for boys (O’Malley) and girls (Stafford). Residential students are assigned to a room, which they can arrange in a manner that resembles their room at home. All meals are served buffet style, beginning with breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and ending with dinner at 5:45 p.m. Evening activities include study hall or room study between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., extra help with one of the faculty members who live on campus, and watching TV in the dorm lounge.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid is available to assist with the cost of tuition for those families demonstrating financial need. All families are eligible to apply for need-based financial aid through one of two outside agencies, FACTS or SSS, each of which assesses the family’s financial need and provides the school with a recommendation as to the amount of aid to be awarded. All financial aid decisions are made on an individual and confidential basis by the school after receiving and reviewing a family’s financial status.

Families must apply for financial aid each year. New and returning families should apply for financial aid by April 1st in order to receive full consideration. Qualified families applying after that date are awarded aid if funds are available. Please feel free to contact the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid for more detailed information about the school’s financial aid program.
